Southampton Sight works in partnership with Guide Dogs and the Southampton City Council Specialist Teacher Advisory Team to provide opportunities for visually impaired children and young people to build on their current skills and develop confidence in their own abilities.
Last year the children and young people reinforced their cane skills by taking the train and catching the ferry to Gosport. They explored balance and co-ordination through climbing, zip wire and paddle boarding activities. They learnt about resilience and determination as well as team work by building an outdoor shelter in bush craft. They discovered the fun, confidence and health benefits that swimming brings and gained their Duckling Award Badge in the process.
In 2025 we have further activities planned including an international cookery day during half term when the children and young people will learn kitchen safety techniques when preparing food for themselves.
