Patients with chronic conditions like sight loss live with their condition 24/7, and only spend a fraction of their time visiting clinical experts – the rest of the time, they must manage their condition themselves. As they begin to realise that they are no longer able to change the situation they need support to change themselves as ultimately, they have the greatest impact on their own lives and how they live it. Through coaching, we can support people living with sight loss to learn how to face challenges, develop resilience and utilise resources to help them live better with sight loss
So, with this in mind we arranged coaching training for the Sight Loss Nurse Advisors at Southampton Ophthalmology Unit to support people with sight loss to be able to navigate their own future and move from dependence to independence. We were very pleased to be able to offer this training for our front-line workers and add to their already bulging toolbox of techniques and knowledge so they can support patients to be able to negotiate the new world they find themselves living in. Can it get better than this?
