As a small, independent charity we rely on the kindness of strangers to allow us to offer the services and activities we do. Whether donations, grants or legacies, without such selfless giving we simply would not exist. All donations are equally appreciated, whatever the size, but some efforts deserve a special shout out and thanks.
The mere thought of running a marathon leaves us breathless, and so we would like to place the spotlight firmly on Matt, 31, who will be hitting the road in aid of Southampton Sight this coming April.
A lifelong Saints fan and season ticket holder, Matt does not only show his love for sport from the sidelines of his beloved hometown club, but describes himself as ‘very active,’ listing running, swimming, and tennis as just a few of his active pastimes. And, of course, football.
But it is not only his enthusiasm for exercise which has inspired his generosity. As he highlights himself ,‘ I will be completing my first marathon in April and want to raise money for a cause that is important to me.’ although not visually impaired himself, like many Matt has direct personal experience with the issues and impact of sight loss:
‘My dad was diagnosed with RP a few years ago which has massively changed his life. I have seen how much the support offered from Southampton Sight has helped and want to help raise money so that Southampton Sight can continue to provide the support to my dad and people with similar conditions.’
We can think of no better reason to raise awareness and funds than the compassion and consideration of a son for his father. Thank you, Matt, your kindness is truly heartwarming.
