Catastrophe can come uncalled at any time, but with the calamitous comes community. The shock and awe of Saturday’s storm Darragh brought chaos, cranes and chainsaws to Southampton Sight, a colossal tree crashing, crushing, and threatening to cancel our Christmas celebrations.
It’s been a huge collective team effort to keep Southampton Sight’s consistent community care operational this week but caution is key, and safety must come first. The conspicuous tree has now been carted off and cremated but our hall will now need to remain closed until we have a structural survey completed. We were very crestfallen to have to cancel this week’s celebratory events, which we know many of our community were looking forward to, but thankfully we have managed to reschedule everything for next week at alternative venues. Southampton Sight will then be closed for Christmas opening again on Monday 6th January.
Our Christmas cheer has been well and truly rekindled by the kindness, consideration and compassion of our beloved Southampton Community. We had sack-loads of wonderful messages and offers of support and we would like to say a massive thank you to everyone for their heart-warming goodwill. It has meant that we have little disruption to our day-to-day activity and Christmas is saved.
