It was raining it was pouring but here at Southampton Sight we were on a mission and that didn’t stop us getting out there to spread our message.
Last week visually impaired members of Southampton Sight walked with Southampton City Council Planning officers and a member of the Stronger Communities Team around Bitterne precinct offering insight into what it is like with a visual impairment walking around the city. So with blindfolds, simulation spectacles, long canes and a guide dog off they went.
So often we are asked to comment on planning applications after they have been written, which is good, but we feel it is better if the people doing the planning understand visual impairment before they plan so thank you Southampton City Council for listening.
