We want to offer both a massive ‘Congratulations!’ and ‘Thank You!’ to Matt for competing and completing the Brighton marathon on April 6th, raising an amazing £933 for Southampton Sight in the process. A remarkable achievement and act of pure generosity, as Matt himself points out, the challenge was far from easy:
‘Yesterday I managed to complete the Brighton Marathon! It was incredibly hard and a real fight to get to the finishing line but was an amazing experience to finish it and a massive thank you to my family who were there to support me every step. I finished it in 3 hours 22 minutes which I was very pleased with. It has been a great pleasure to raise money for Southampton Sight and I’m delighted to have been able to raise £933 for such a fantastic charity.’
Matt’s accomplishment is a true testament to his determination and compassion. Crossing the finishing line of his first-ever marathon was fuelled in part by his personal connection to our cause. His father was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), a degenerative condition that significantly impacts vision. Witnessing the transformative support Southampton Sight provided to his father inspired Matt to give back.
The money raised will contribute to the charity’s mission of empowering individuals with sight loss to live as full and independent lives as possible. Matt’s achievement highlights the power of community and the impact of selfless giving, his journey an inspiration, reminding us all of how personal experiences can drive meaningful action.
Through his selfless endeavour, Matt has made a lasting impact, proving that every step taken for a cause is a step toward positive change. Everyone here at Southampton Sight sends our heartfelt gratitude and thanks for his Herculean efforts, and hope he puts his feet up and takes a well-earned rest… for now at least.
