Congratulations to our latest batch of Sight Loss Nurse Advisors for completing their four-week training course here at Southampton Sight! Led and developed by those with lived experience of sight loss and in collaboration with local authority / charitable partners, the course covers all things visually impaired. From state benefits to assistive technology, emotional wellbeing to sighted guidance, the sessions promote empathy, impart knowledge, and strengthen co-operation and expertise across Southampton and beyond. Meeting the very patients they serve, the course provides first-hand accounts of what it is to be both diagnosed and living with sight loss, available support networks, and the need for patient empowerment. So a big ‘Well Done’ to Jo-Jo, Henry, Jade, and Joanna for their hard work, engagement and, above all, dedication to helping the visually impaired. We look forward to working with you all to better support the sight impaired support themselves.
