Here at Southampton Sight, we are keen to show our members the latest products and assistive technologies for blind and partially sighted people. We do this by working in partnership with equipment suppliers to bring the latest products and assistive technologies to the centre for one of our Low Vision Product Clinic days.
Members are invited to come along for a 30-minute one-to-one appointment with an experienced consultant who can give advice and answer any questions that they may have. At these events members get hands-on experience of the latest products and can learn more about assistive technology with a dedicated specialist in a relaxed environment.
Today, Ben from Optelec visited us at the centre with a selection of video magnifiers and text-to-speech products. Throughout the day he had a steady stream of potential customers who came in for an in-depth look at the wide selection of gadgets that are available. One lady commented after her appointment “I wanted to buy it all, but I have settled for a hand-held video magnifier”.
