I am incredibly proud of the work done at Southampton Sight. I have been involved with the charity for 9 years and can see how it has grown and developed. Originally founded to provide social activities for the blind population in Southampton it continues to do that and so much more. Not only do you provide advice, guidance, and equipment – that real practical support to allow those with sight loss to fully participate in life, you also reach out into the community to help widen the understanding of what it is to live with sight loss and how people can assist those living with sight loss. I am particularly honoured to have been involved with developing the close links with the hospital eye service where you train our staff and medical students. The slight loss nurse advisor programme is a wonderful example of what can be achieved by working together across different organisations to support people with sight loss. I hope this work and these links continue to go from strength to strength over the next 125 years!
