WOW what an achievement – with Woody and Toby, our doggy cheerleaders, our swimmers Tommy, Paul, Jenny, Trish and Steve, assembled and prepared for their 125 lengths swim to celebrate 125 years of service by our charity.
The swimming group has come a long way since May 2023. With funding from Energise Me Sport England the group started in May 2023. Martin, Active Nation assistant venue manager, remembers some of the members tentative steps as they negotiated the trip from the changing room and then coming down the flume. It wasn’t long before members were asking for lane swimming and then the serious business began. Jenny, one of the participants today remembers barely managing 2 lengths – today she swam 34! Tommy (22 lengths), Paul (60 lengths), Steve (35 Lengths) and Trish (130 lengths) completing 281 lengths today – add that to Chris who had already completed 125 lengths as he couldn’t be part of the group today and between them they swam 406 lengths which is over 10km. It really can’t get better than that can it?
