Thank you Co-op Bassett Green for sponsoring our laughter and lunch club. Our social clubs are a chance for a change of scenery and regular afternoons of conversation and laughter for our members and when we share over a scrumptious meal of fish and chips what could be better?. We also arrange transport to and from our centre. Evidence carried out by the University of Oxford shows that there are wellbeing and mental health benefits from ‘social eating’. In fact, the research states: “Those who eat socially more often feel happier and are more satisfied with life, are more trusting of others, are more engaged with their local communities, and have more friends they can depend on for support.” So, who are we to argue with that!
Southampton Sight has been arranging social groups for people with sight loss for 125 years since 1899 and isn’t it incredible that we are still here doing what our founders started all those years ago. It is heart-warming that local businesses continue to support us and wonderful for us as an organisation to continue to support people living with sight loss to live happy and fulfilled lives in the face of what could be a devastating and lonely life for many of our members. Thank you for your support it is so appreciated.
