An exchange of ideas and outlooks is always a positive, and so it was a true pleasure to host a V.I. cooking session for the UK Harvest Nourish ED Learning team. Focused on limiting food wastage and promoting the basic skills needed to make the most uncertain cook feel confident and competent in the kitchen, UK Harvest strive to help the more disadvantage eat better and cheaper, a must in the present climate.
And so, blindfolds firmly in place, we here at Southampton Sight put our visitors through the sight loss assault course. From basic chopping and slicing to baking, they got a taster of life lived differently and, more importantly, were given the tools and techniques which allow the sight impaired to not only remain self-reliant and independent, but well nourished both physically and mentally.
It was a great day all around, a genuine joy to meet such engaged and enthusiastic folks, and provide a perspective that will only benefit so many others in the work they do going forward. Thank you, UK Harvest, for your time, energy, and empathy.
‘Thank you so much for organising the session today and particularly to Angela and Kris for their wonderful delivery and leading of the training. We have all learnt a great deal that will be informing our education creation going forward.’ Sian
