Aged 18 – 25 and bitten by the travel bug? Want to meet new friends for life while experiencing the magic of Italy? With this amazing heavily-subsidised adventure tailor-made for young V.I.’s you can!
Southampton Sight is delighted to be partnering with Seable in offering an exciting opportunity for visually impaired young adults aged 18 – 25 living in Dorset or Hampshire to join a small group of like-minded travellers for a transformative 6 day / 5 night trip to Sicily running from October 31st – November 5th, 2026.
Combining travel, independence skills, and personal development in a supportive environment, this trip has been built to:
- Grow your travel confidence through real world practice!
- Build practical life skills and independence!
- Experience international travel in a safe, accessible, guided setting!
- Meet new peers, broaden your horizons and challenge yourself!
What is included:
Thanks to project funding, the majority of the trip’s costs in Sicily are fully covered by Seable, including:
- All accommodation
- All lunches and dinners
- All planned excursions
- A high quality guiding team with a 1:2 guiding ratio
- Group activities designed to build independence and confidence
What you will be responsible for:
- Booking and paying for your own flights and travel insurance.
- Booking and paying for any transfer or pre-departure accommodation costs required to get to the UK airport (for example if the flight is early in the morning and you need to stay in a hotel the night before).
- Purchasing your own breakfast groceries at the destination – making your own breakfast daily is built into the itinerary as a core independence-building activity!
Pre-Trip Preparations:
Before taking off for the trip, travellers will also be required to:
- attend Seable’s vital pre-departure online “Independence Course.” This consists of four 3-hour sessions running monthly (starting in June), essential for you to fully prepare for the trip.
This is not a 1 to 1 care trip, it’s an independence building programme supported by experienced staff and guides. To guarantee everyone’s safety the pre-trip preparation will ensure adventurers have:
- Independent mobility skills, including airport navigation with minimal support
- Full independence with personal care, daily living skills, and managing medication
- Basic travel readiness, including using planes and public transport
- Ability to communicate needs, follow safety instructions and use accessibility tech/tools
- Medical readiness for international travel
- Willingness to participate positively in a group setting
- Availability to attend all four pre departure training sessions
