It goes without saying that the lifeblood of Southampton Sight flows from our fantastic volunteers.  Their selfless commitment and dedication underpins all we do here, and without their kindness and support we simply could not offer the breadth of services and activities available.

This is never more true than when describing Chris (54), a long-time volunteer and fellow V.I. Anyone who attends our Wednesday group already knows the positive energy and enthusiasm he brings.  A genuine cornerstone of the charity, Chris’s selflessness is an example to us all.

And so, it was no surprise to those who know him when he offered to undertake a sponsorship challenge in aid of our 125th anniversary.  A regular attendee of our weekly lane swimming sessions for the visually impaired at The Quays, Chris dived in at the deep end setting himself the goal of completing 125 lengths of the pool throughout March.  That’s 3125 metres in total, the equivalent of a little under 2 miles.

Needless to say, Chris took to the challenge like a duck to water, reaching his target and raising an eye-watering £460 in the process.  Well done that man!  All here at Southampton Sight congratulate you for your wonderful achievement and thank you for your tremendous fund-raising prowess.
