Today marks World Sight Day — a global moment to reflect on the importance of accessible, affordable eye care for all.  Every second Thursday in October, attention turns to the millions affected by sight loss and the need for inclusive support.

This week, a fantastic team of volunteers from Specsavers Support Services (Whiteley) joined us at Southampton Sight for a heartwarming day of cooking, connection, and community.  Together, they prepared delicious cottage pie and fresh fruit salad for our Wednesday Lunch Club — and that was just the beginning!

After a busy morning of chopping, stirring, and seasoning, our guests joined in a lively Chairobics session before serving their nutritious creations to our members.  The afternoon was filled with laughter, a friendly quiz, and plenty of good conversation.

To round off the day, volunteers learned the basics of sighted guiding and explored what life is like for people living with sight loss.  With 1 in 5 over-65s affected, raising awareness and understanding is key to building a more inclusive society.

At Southampton Sight, we believe every activity is an opportunity to educate, empower, and connect — and this was a perfect example of that.

Thank you, Specsavers Support Services (Whiteley), for your time, energy, and commitment to making a difference.
