We were proud to deliver sight loss awareness training to a number of Southampton University Hospital Trust staff here at Southampton Sight. Encompassing a range of departments, including their ‘Patient and Family Support Hub,’ ‘Voluntary Services,’ and the ‘Patient Accessibility’ team, this collaborative session exemplifies a powerful example of partnership and lived experience driving inclusive care.
Led by people living with sight loss, this session was delivered in collaboration with the SUHT Patient Experience Team, who support the Fundamentals of Care framework that ensures dignity, compassion, and person-centred support across the hospital.
Volunteers are often the most consistent presence on any ward and equipping them with the knowledge to support patients with sight loss will be a win-win for everyone.
Together, we are building a culture of care that is informed, inclusive, and rooted in real experience.
