At Southampton Sight we pride ourselves on offering the support and services to help our members live their best lives, striving to punch above our weight each and every day to empower, connect and inform the sight loss community of Southampton.

And so, on a recent visit to University Southampton Hospital’s ‘Patient and Family Support Hub’ we were genuinely amazed and inspired by what this dedicated team have to offer both in-patients and visitors alike.

Based next door to the Eye Unit, we were greeted by Steph, the Patient Hub Supervisor, for a chat and a quick spin around the department itself. A warm, welcoming space for all, the hub has far more to offer than simply comfy chairs, a large screen TV, and welcome distractions for the little ones.

With several rooms scattered around the main hub, the service allows registered charities rooms to host their services. From the Limbless Association, an amputee community group, and the Teenage and Young Adult Cancer service, to end of life weddings and beyond, the hub does not shy away from the most emotional and impactful conditions, providing everything from a simple cuppa to a tear-jerking farewell for loved ones.

And with a soon to be constructed shower room for visitors to freshen up without the need to make the journey home and back again, the services offered are ever-expanding.

A big ‘Thank You’ to Steph and the team, not only for giving up their time for us, but for everything you do for the patients, carers, and families at what can be the most stressful of times. We look forward to working with you in the very near future – watch this space…
