Thank you Greggs Foundation who awarded Southampton Sight £250 for care packages and specialist equipment for people living with sight loss. Since closing our offices on 18 March and moving to home working we have been delivering a telephone based services offering information and advice, non face to face shopping and prescription deliveries and telephone befriending for our members. We have made over 400 calls to vulnerable people living with sight loss to ensure support was in place. We have volunteer drivers who are delivering direct to peoples homes. We received a call from a man living with sight loss who needed some shopping done. He also told it was the anniversary of his wife’s death and he wanted a newspaper as he had an ‘in memorium’ notice in the paper. We were able to deliver his shopping, a newspaper and some custards tarts on the day. It is these personal and little things that make loneliness bearable in these unprecedented times.
